Just an update on our recent post about the Elder Park Gates, which were removed last week for repainting. Some areas of flaking paint and rust were discovered during the snagging process and a decision was taken to remove the gates completely to enable them to be stripped and repainted under workshop conditions rather than carry out spot repairs. This is a belt and braces approach to guarantee their longevity. The plan is to have the gates back in Govan and looking fantastic in August. The lamps will also be removed in the coming weeks to undergo a similar process.
We are delighted to announce that six traditional cast iron benches have been purchased to add to the splendour of the Elder Park entranceway. These are replicas of the original park benches as seen in old photographs of the park and will help recapture the character of Govan’s dear green place whilst also providing a stylish seat! The benches will be installed soon.
