Join the Govan Hidden Histories Project Team this weekend for something special in Govan…

 

Saturday 23 Nov – 3 FREE guided walks, and an Evening Talk & Screening

 

11 – 1pm Celebrating Strong Women of Govan – Procession and Action

Join the Women’s Histories & Protest project Team as they take to the streets of Govan, and reclaim them, honouring some of the Strong Women of Govan! Starting at the Riverside Museum – gather at the UCS Banner display.

 

1 – 2.30pm Shipbuilding – Guided Walk

Join Caroline Austin from GOMA and discover the displays in the Riverside Museum that link to the hidden history of Govan’s rich shipbuilding heritage, then take a free ferry over to Govan to find out more. Starting at the Riverside Museum – gather at the UCS Banner display.

 

2 – 4 pm Quest for the 13 Treasures of Govan – Guided Walk and Treasure Hunt

Join Tam McGarvey from GalGael and Frazer Capie from the Govan Stones Project and the Riverside Museum, with renown Historian Tim Clarkson on a guided walk which explains ‘The Quest for the 13 Treasures of Govan’ treasure trail. Seek out the lost treasures of Ancient Govan! Starting at the Riverside Museum – gather at the UCS Banner display.

 

5.30 – 8pm Talks and Screening: Ancient Govan, Riverside Sculptures, and films of Govan from the Scottish Screen Archive

Talks by renowned historian Tim Clarkson, public artist Matt Baker, and screening by Scottish Screen Curator Liam Paterson presenting as part of ‘Govan’s hidden histories’ project Launch at Govan Old Parish Church, 866 Govan Road, G51 3UU (Map/ directions here) Images and speaker bios: here. 11 – 1pm Clyde Walkways : Rights and River Access – Guided Walk

Join tsBeall, Matt Baker, Tom Manley, and a dream team of passionate experts as they discuss riverfront usage, ownership and recent developments, including public art in and around Govan Riverside. Starting at the Riverside Museum – gather at the UCS Banner display.

 

2 – 4pm Govan’s Hidden Histories Subcrawl with Dress for the Weather – Guided Walk

Come on a customized Subcrawl tour of Partick & Govan with Dress for the Weather, for those with an interest in architecture and public spaces. Starting at the Riverside Museum – – gather at the UCS Banner display.

 

 

As part of our weekend events, there will be a FREE ferry service between the Riverside Museum and Govan from 10.30 – 5pm Sat & Sun 23-24 Nov.

 

Govan Old Parish Church will be open Sat 23, 11am – 5pm & Sun 24, 1pm – 5pm . Check out the newly re-displayed Hogback stones in Glasgow’s oldest place of Worship.
