Scaffolding has recently gone up at 5-9 Water Row, signalling the start of a comprehensive repair programme that will see the B-listed building restored to its former glory.
Over the next 13 weeks the external fabric of 5-9 Water Row will be overhauled, in line with best conservation practice. This will involve: roof, stonework and chimney repairs; overhauling of the tower; limited repointing; refurbishment of existing sash and case windows; structural and joinery repairs where necessary.
Because of the prominent location of this building (facing Govan Cross), it is hoped that improving its appearance will have a high impact – enhancing the character of the Conservation Area and improving the attractiveness of the streetscape, as well as increasing confidence in the regeneration of Govan.
